However, it retains its modular structure, allowing for easy upgrades and repairs — and it offers a fun building experience. In testing, the laptop impressed all around and truly deserves accolades.
Framework announced the Laptop 13 Pro in April of this year, initially targeting a release date by the end of June. However, issues with the touchpad and display delayed the rollout, which is now set for the end of July to early August, coinciding with initial tests.
Waiting until November for Orders
For those just now showing interest or intentionally waiting for independent reviews before purchasing, there’s news: buyers must wait until November for the laptop, as stated in the Framework configurator. This delay applies to both the DIY edition tested by our editorial team and the pre-built notebooks utilizing the Intel Core Ultra Series 3, known as Panther Lake. For September, Framework anticipates the arrival of DIY and pre-built variants featuring Ryzen AI 300.
Framework Laptop 13 Pro Starts at €1,349
The company is currently pricing the Intel barebone of the Framework Laptop 13 Pro at a minimum of €1,349, excluding DRAM, SSD, operating system, expansion modules, and power adapter. Buyers can opt to purchase memory and storage directly from Framework or use their own components. For those looking to avoid any additional hassle, pre-configured systems start at €1,799. AMD options are not cheaper either, with DIY starting at €1,579 and pre-built models based on the current single maximum configuration kicking off at €4,159.
Test System Details
Our team requested a pre-built device for review but ultimately received a DIY model, which turned out to be a better choice for experiencing the full “Framework experience.” The Laptop 13 Pro came equipped with an Intel Core Ultra X7 358H, 32GB LPDDR5X on an LPCAMM2 module, and 1TB WD SN7100, totaling €3,388. The current pricing reflected ongoing global memory shortages. This includes costs for six expansion cards (2×USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, Ethernet, SD), a 100-watt USB-C power adapter, the display frame in an optional “Transparent Black” color, and Windows 11 Home.

An Ubuntu Certified Notebook
The Framework Laptop 13 Pro is “Ubuntu Certified,” meaning it has been officially tested and approved for use with Ubuntu by Canonical. The Intel model officially supports Fedora and also enjoys community support for CachyOS, Bazzite, Arch Linux, and NixOS. This flexibility applies to both Intel and AMD models, aside from Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Framework asserts:
“The Framework Laptop 13 Pro has been built from the ground up for compatibility with Linux. We validate hardware support across major distributions, contribute upstream where possible, and provide firmware that integrates seamlessly with LVFS. We specifically consider Linux compatibility when selecting components such as Wi-Fi, fingerprint sensor, audio, and power management. Everything works reliably right out of the box for an excellent Linux experience.”

Upgrading to the New Pro Specifications
If someone wishes to upgrade from a previous Framework Laptop 13 to the new Pro specifications, they can do so. The company clarifies on its website what to consider, what will work, and what may not. They also provide a detailed video guide.
Documentation Makes Assembly a Breeze
Speaking of guides (and downloads), Framework offers extensive documentation that clearly explains how to approach assembling the DIY edition and what to keep in mind. This guide was crucial for our test device from ComputerBase. The only tool required was the Framework screwdriver with a dual-sided T5/PH0 bit, which is priced at €5 separately.
Building a modular notebook like the Framework Laptop 13 Pro doesn’t require a DIY expert or IT specialist; following instructions and having a bit of dexterity will suffice. A dose of common sense helps to avoid potential pitfalls like “too tight is just as bad as too loose.” If a component doesn’t click into place on the first attempt, a gentle retry is better than force.
The DIY Edition essentially consists of three primary components: the new high-quality CNC-milled aluminum chassis for installing RAM and SSD, an Input Cover Kit that includes the keyboard and new haptic touchpad, and a screen bezel that completes the assembly. The screen itself or the mainboard with the CPU and cooling system doesn’t need to be assembled; that’s only necessary for upgrades from previous models.
Modularity Does Not Mean Cheap Quality
Being modular and easy to repair does not imply that buyers receive a flimsy “make-do” solution with parts that feel cheap, have too much play, or compromise quality compared to pre-built options. Framework has crafted a high-quality laptop with the Laptop 13 Pro, which justifies its price tag in this respect.
The Small Compromises are Size and Weight
Framework estimates the assembly time for the DIY edition at 15 to 30 minutes, which is a realistic approximation. Buyers can easily set up a finished laptop on their table, one that does not immediately appear modular due to its high-quality design and minimal gaps.
So where are the compromises? Why isn’t every laptop designed this way? The Framework Laptop 13 Pro is a 13.5-inch laptop, measuring 296.63 × 228.98 × 15.85 mm and weighing 1.44 kg (with four expansion cards), not among the smallest or lightest in its class. Buyers need to consider this. Traditional laptops can be thinner and lighter, such as the Asus Zenbook S14 (12.9 mm, 1.2 kg) and Samsung Galaxy Book 6 Pro (11.6 mm, 1.23 kg), both offering comparable Intel-based specifications.
However, this may matter little to the target audience of the Framework Laptop 13 Pro, as the laptop is far from being thick and heavy. It merely ranks behind its non-modular competition in this respect.
