Fidan Ekiz has already made a name for herself in the Dutch media landscape, and she’s set to take on a significant role as the permanent presenter of NPO 1’s morning show “Goedemorgen Nederland” after the summer. While many aspiring hosts view this show as a launching pad to larger opportunities, Ekiz’s return to this morning slot at age 49 raises questions regarding her career path.

Historically, “Goedemorgen Nederland” serves as a stepping stone for presenters to establish their names and move on to bigger roles. In contrast, Ekiz has already hosted prime-time talk shows like “De Vooravond” and “Op1,” making her current position a surprising twist in her career trajectory.
Changes in the Roster
The media outlet WNL is undergoing significant changes, not only parting ways with presenter Welmoed Sijtsma, who will be alternating with Renze Klamer on RTL 4, but also saying goodbye to Lisette Wellens. After nine years at WNL, Wellens felt it was time to embark on a new career path. In a press release, the network shared, “Due to limited development opportunities at WNL right now, we mutually decided to end the collaboration.”
Editor-in-chief Kees Berghuis expressed sorrow over Wellens’ departure, highlighting her cheerful, professional demeanor and significant contributions to WNL. “We will miss her dearly,” he stated.
Filling the Gaps
With two vacancies to fill at “Goedemorgen Nederland,” Fidan Ekiz and Wieger Hemmer step in as replacements after serving as regular substitutes last season. Ekiz appears optimistic about her new role, noting her surprise at finding such joy in her work. “I never thought I would be so happy to go to work at this stage of my life. I’m part of a fantastic team,” she remarked.
The Enthusiasm of the Team
Wieger Hemmer echoes Ekiz’s sentiments, referring to the opportunity as a “beautiful, challenging next step within WNL.” He has felt at home within the organization for the past 15 years.
Kees Berghuis expressed his satisfaction in quickly reinstating a complete presenting team. “Fidan and Wieger have proven to be a great match with the program. They embody the heart of WNL and truly deserve their permanent spots on the team,” he affirmed.
Looking Ahead
Kees has announced plans to seek new substitutes from WNL’s talent pool, indicating, “We are bursting with skilled individuals. We are recognized as a breeding ground for talent for a reason.” The upcoming season is expected to feature several young and emerging talents joining the “Goedemorgen Nederland” presenting team.
The new season, set to kick off on August 31st at 7:30 AM on NPO 1, promises to bring fresh dynamics and perspectives to the morning show, blending experienced presenters with new faces in the industry.
