Apple Accelerates AI Initiatives: The Second Public Beta of iOS 27 Released

Apple recently unveiled the second public beta of iOS 27, which was first announced during the WWDC on June 8, 2026. Since July 22, testers have been able to explore a range of new features, primarily focusing on advancements in artificial intelligence and an innovative infotainment experience in vehicles.

Video Streaming on Your Car Display – Limited to Parked Mode

One of the most exciting updates is the introduction of video streaming capabilities to CarPlay. With iOS 27, users can stream movies and series directly from the Apple TV app and other supported platforms on their car displays. However, there is a critical limitation: the system will automatically switch to audio mode once the car is in motion.

This feature’s implementation depends on car manufacturers, as developers’ tools became available on July 24, but no manufacturer has officially announced support for the feature yet. Compatible widescreen displays and approval from vehicle makers are essential for this function to be fully realized.

In addition to video capabilities, CarPlay has undergone several enhancements. The update includes a new MiniPlayer with a built-in timeline, 14 additional background images, and a more stable wireless connection. The design adheres to “Liquid-Glass” principles, offering smoother animations and revamped icons. Electric vehicle owners will also benefit from improved integration with their car’s range display.

Siri Transforms into a Personal Assistant – Yet with Limitations

The heart of this update is the integration of Apple Intelligence, a suite of generative AI features. Siri has undergone a significant overhaul, now capable of understanding conversational context, accomplishing tasks across multiple apps, and providing context-aware responses by accessing personal data.

However, the hardware requirements for these advanced features are quite stringent. Standard AI functions necessitate an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. In contrast, top-tier features, including customizable voice modulation and variable speaking speed, are exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Air, owing to their 12GB RAM capacity.

A downside for European users is that the Siri AI won’t be available at launch in the European Union, due to regulatory hurdles. Discussions between Apple leadership and EU representatives regarding compliance with regulations took place only on July 1, 2026.

AI Messaging and RCS 2.7 Features

The Messages app has also received extensive updates. AI now automatically summarizes lengthy chat threads, and users can create calendar entries or suggest replies at the click of a button. Siri can even draft messages in the user’s unique writing style.

Furthermore, the addition of RCS 2.7 introduces features familiar to Android users, such as inline replies, emoji reactions, and the ability to edit or delete sent messages across platforms. A new drawing tool allows users to utilize markers, highlighters, and stickers directly within the app.

Enhancements in Safari, Photos, and System Interface

Beyond the major updates, Apple has improved several existing features:

  • Safari now sorts open tabs by topic and notifies users if webpage content changes.
  • The Passwords app prompts automatic updates for weak or compromised passwords.
  • In Photos, users can now adjust images to fit screens automatically and save individual video frames as high-resolution photos.
  • The Interface has customizable font sizes for the lock screen, independent volume controls for alarms, and darker widgets designed for OLED displays.

What’s Next: Foldable iPhone and Final Release

Software analysts discovered hints of a dual-battery support in the beta code. This suggests a future foldable iPhone that might operate with two separate battery cells. Industry observers anticipate an announcement in the fall of 2026.

The testing cycle is expected to last throughout the summer, with the final version of iOS 27 scheduled to be released on September 14, 2026.

As Apple continues to push boundaries with its latest updates, users can look forward to an exciting blend of AI-driven functionalities and enhanced entertainment options that redefine how we experience technology in our daily lives.
