Trump’s media company plans a paid premium access to posts on Truth Social, aiming to benefit financial firms. Critics decry “abuse of state power.”
Former President Donald Trump is looking to monetize his online messages through his media company, Trump Media. They have announced that for a fee, users will gain quicker access to high-reach accounts on Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social.
Trump frequently posts multiple messages each day, generating headlines across various topics worldwide.
Targeting the Financial Industry
The new offering is scheduled to launch on August 1 and is mainly aimed at stock traders and financial news providers who rely on critical timing advantages.
Customers could capitalize on subsequent movements in stocks, bonds, and interest rates. “Markets are already reacting to posts on Truth Social,” said Kevin McGurn, interim CEO of Trump Media and Technology Group.
“Unwarranted Abuse of State Power”
Critics have repeatedly accused Trump of leveraging his presidency for personal profit.
“He is selling accelerated, privileged access to information about what he is doing as President,” stated Kathleen Clark, a professor at Washington University School of Law and an expert on governmental conflict of interest rules. “This is yet another brazen form of corruption—an unwarranted abuse of state power to enrich himself.”
The Trump family’s company did not comment on whether the new feature would benefit Trump’s presidency.
