With the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung addressed many of the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s weaknesses and launched a strong foldable device. However, there were still some limitations compared to competitors, which the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra aims to eliminate.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: The True Successor to Fold 7
Unlike the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Fold 8 Ultra will feature a “classic” foldable format. The outer display will measure 8 inches, resolving at 2,504 x 2,256 pixels, and maintain a 3:2 aspect ratio. The outer display is expected to remain at 6.5 inches, offering a 120 Hz refresh rate.
Reports suggest that the Fold 8 Ultra may utilize an ASP-laser-drilled metal plate, potentially making the unsightly display crease finally disappear. Until now, no manufacturer has managed to make the crease completely invisible, and even Apple is reportedly working on similar solutions for its upcoming iPhone Ultra models.
The dimensions of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra are expected to be 158.4 x 143.2 millimeters when unfolded and 158.4 x 72.8 millimeters when folded, with a thickness of 4.1 millimeters, making it only 0.1 millimeters thinner than the Fold 7.

Larger Battery: Is Samsung Closing the Gap?
According to a report from Deal Site, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will come with a larger battery despite its slimmer profile. It is expected to offer a 5,000 mAh capacity, which is a significant upgrade (+600 mAh). However, it still falls short compared to competitors like Oppo’s Find N6 (6,000 mAh) or Honor’s Magic V6 (6,600 mAh).
Under the hood, Samsung is likely to equip the device with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 “for Galaxy,” which will also be seen in the Galaxy S26 Ultra. This chip will be supported by a minimum of 12 GB RAM and at least 256 GB of storage. Additional versions with 512 GB and 1 TB storage are also expected.
Galaxy Fold 8 Without a Camera Upgrade
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 made headlines with its switch to a 200-megapixel main camera. This sensor, along with an f/1.6 aperture, is expected to carry over to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Furthermore, there will likely be a 50 MP ultra-wide camera with an f/1.9 aperture and a 10 MP telecamera with a 3x zoom.
The two selfie cameras are expected to remain unchanged: both the front camera on the outer display and the under-display camera will maintain their 10-megapixel capabilities. Thus, a true camera upgrade is absent in this generation.
Unpacked Event: When Will the Fold 8 Be Unveiled?
Samsung will hold another Galaxy Unpacked event to introduce the next generation of foldable Galaxy smartphones. According to the company, the unveiling is set for July 22, 2026. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is likely to be available for pre-order shortly thereafter. The starting price may increase again, estimated at around €2,199. However, consumers can expect a pre-order promotion, although no details have been released yet.
