Wilfred Genee has made it clear that he does not rule out a return to RTL, even though Johan Derksen has stated he isn’t interested. “You never know, maybe by that time, the game will look very different,” Genee remarked, hinting at the ever-changing dynamics in the entertainment industry.

A fresh wave has swept through RTL with the recent departure of Peter van der Vorst as head of television. His replacement, Peter Lubbers, is rumored to be taking a less politically correct approach and has reached out to Genee to discuss a potential collaboration, possibly bringing back the show “Vandaag Inside” to RTL.

Return to RTL: Possibilities and Perspectives

Initially, Johan Derksen indicated he would only consider returning with a significant salary increase of 500,000 euros per year. However, he later announced his commitment to John de Mol, dismissing the idea altogether. Critics argue that a move back to RTL could be particularly beneficial for Genee, especially as he would likely have more creative freedom on platforms like RTL and Videoland.

What are Genee’s thoughts on this situation? He observes, “We are currently in the final phase of this year, and we still have a year left on our contract, so we have plenty of time. Yes, who knows how things will be then, maybe you’ll be in a very different position.” He shared this insight during an interview on RTL Boulevard, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of the media landscape.

Skepticism Surrounding the Transfer

Luuk Ikink, while commenting at the desk, expressed doubt about the possibility of the “Vandaag Inside” team returning to RTL. “I think we can safely say that this transfer is still quite far off,” he remarked.

Reporter Aran Bade added, “It feels like a bit of a pipe dream, doesn’t it?” Meanwhile, presenter Daphne Bunskoek noted, “Well, he basically said: ‘In a year, the situation might look different.’”

Aran cleverly pointed out, “It’s smart of them to keep things open-ended. It can elevate their market value.”

The Shift in Sports Programming

RTL is increasingly acquiring sports rights, especially following their takeover of Viaplay, which is another factor in the equation. As Luuk indicated, during the conversation, Genee mentioned that he might be interested in returning to sports coverage at some point, though currently, there isn’t much opportunity for that—but it could present itself at RTL in the future.

Meanwhile, Miljuschka Witzenhausen expressed frustration, “But guys, this is still going to take a year. Are we really going to discuss this for that long?”
