TÜV Report: Mercedes Among the Top

Durability tests primarily showcase how individual vehicles perform. The TÜV report, however, is based on a much broader dataset. Each year, the results from millions of inspections are analyzed, providing a comprehensive overview of vehicle reliability.

Interestingly, the overall winner isn’t from Stuttgart. The Mazda 2 takes first place, while the Mercedes B-Class shares second place with the VW T-Roc. Meanwhile, the Mercedes C-Class leads in its vehicle category.

Although many models face increasing defects as they age, several Mercedes models have remained competitive even after ten or eleven years. The A-Class and B-Class, along with the SUV models ML and GLE, perform exceptionally well despite running over 170,000 kilometers.

However, Mercedes is no longer the sole leader. Brands like Mazda, Toyota, BMW, and Volkswagen frequently place their models among the top ranks. In today’s market, consumers searching for a reliable vehicle have a wider selection than ever before.

ADAC Confirms High Reliability

A similar pattern can be seen in the latest breakdown statistics from ADAC. Unlike TÜV, the automobile club evaluates breakdowns rather than inspections, providing insights into which models frequently experience issues in real-life situations.

Mercedes ranks multiple times among the vehicles with fewest breakdowns. Both the A-Class and B-Class are among the best in their category, as well as the electric SUV EQA, GLB, and GLE. Additionally, the Sprinter tops the list for commercial vehicles. This statistic also highlights that reliability is no longer dominated by a single brand; numerous models from Audi, BMW, Mazda, Skoda, and Volkswagen also perform remarkably well.

The quality standard that Mercedes has advertised for decades can thus be substantiated with data. Independent assessments reveal that the brand’s vehicles remain among the most reliable on the market today. However, the gap compared to competitors has narrowed. Therefore, choosing a Mercedes does not automatically equate to selecting the best vehicle in its class. Yet, it does mean opting for a car that is likely to remain reliable for many years and kilometers to come.
