Florian Seibel, the co-founder and co-CEO of Quantum Systems, announced late Wednesday night that everything was finalized regarding their new funding. With the backing of prominent investors like Blackstone and Airbus, the company has successfully secured $1.2 billion in its latest financing round. Known primarily for its reconnaissance drones and collaborations with Ukrainian partners, Quantum Systems from Gilching has now reached a valuation of $8 billion, a staggering tenfold increase over the past year.
Rapid Revenue Growth
The impressive valuation is fueled by rapid business growth. Last year, Quantum Systems generated €285 million in revenue, and this year, Seibel expects that number to rise to as much as €700 million. For the following year, they are aiming for a remarkable €1.5 billion. Notably, experts argue that the company’s most valuable asset is not necessarily its drones, but rather its ability to integrate various manned and unmanned systems via a software platform.
This capability has attracted collaboration with Airbus’s significantly larger military division. Seibel emphasized in a press conference that the software isn’t limited to military applications. He pointed out the enormous potential of the trend towards humanoid robots for digital networking. With fresh capital at hand, Quantum Systems now also has ample funds available for acquisitions.
Developing Their Own Aircraft
However, Quantum Systems requires this capital for the development of its own aircraft, whose concept was unveiled at the ILA Air Show in Berlin in May, capturing significant attention. The aircraft, named P19 Pulse, is poised to take flight within a year—a bold ambition indeed.
What sets this aircraft apart is its dual functionality: it is designed to operate both with one to two human pilots onboard and in an unmanned capacity. This versatility makes it suitable for various applications, including maritime surveillance and pilot training. The aircraft’s construction will take place near the company’s headquarters in Gilching. Quantum Systems has secured two large hangars at Oberpfaffenhofen Airport, originally built for the now-defunct air taxi developer Lilium.
The Future of Quantum Systems
As Quantum Systems continues its impressive ascent, the implications for the industry are vast. The integration of advanced technologies, particularly in software and hardware, positions them not just as a player in the drone market, but as a potential leader in multiple sectors, including defense and robotics. The potential applications of their innovative platforms can redefine how aerial systems are utilized globally.
With ambitious revenue targets and groundbreaking projects on the horizon, Quantum Systems is indeed paving the way for a future where unmanned and manned systems operate seamlessly together. As they prepare for their first flight of the P19 Pulse and further expand their market reach, all eyes will be on this promising startup turned billion-dollar enterprise.
