Simon Keizer recently made headlines for his arrogant behavior at a luxury hotel in Ibiza, where he had a rather embarrassing encounter with a night receptionist. He was heard expressing impatience towards the worker, ultimately labeling him as a “really annoying guy.”

It’s no secret that Keizer has a history of being rather grumpy—a fact so apparent that his wife once reprimanded him, prompting him to embark on a retreat in Costa Rica. During this retreat, he unearthed several hidden traumas, realizing just how deeply “rusty” his sorrow still was.
The Problem with Self-Image
Had Simon sought help earlier, he might have salvaged his pop duo, Nick & Simon. His dissatisfaction with their music led him to sabotage their success. “There was always a voice in my head saying stuff like, ‘It’s just women’s music,’” he confessed in an interview. “This deep-rooted belief that I wasn’t good enough often undermined our success. While that muted feeling helped block out the bad, it also dulled the good.”
Recognizing these self-destructive thought patterns is crucial for anyone aspiring to find personal fulfillment without compromise.
Journaling: A Path to Insight
In his quest for self-improvement, Simon has adopted new habits. One includes waking up at 6 AM to journal and write. “That quiet hour before everyone else awakens is precious, even while on vacation,” he noted.
While in Ibiza, he found himself in a luxurious hotel where one night receptionist made it a daily ritual to turn on the lights and brew his espresso. However, by the end of the week, a different worker was on duty, and the morning greeting was nowhere to be found, triggering Simon’s frustration.
An Unusual Reaction
The lack of the “special treatment” he had grown accustomed to made Simon irritable. “By 6:05, I was already heavily annoyed and thought that new guy was a real pain,” he confessed. Yet, this reaction made him introspective. “I suddenly thought, what am I doing? Maybe this new guy is actually a fantastic person.”
This level of self-reflection is essential for anyone in high-pressure environments, often reminding you to step outside your own perceptions.
Striving for Enlightenment
In the end, Simon admits that he hasn’t completely transformed into a “zen” individual. “I can’t turn my thoughts off, but I can learn not to take them too seriously. They aren’t always the truth,” he said, acknowledging that the old Simon still exists. “That’s just the way I am.”
And when does the “Hulk-Simon” truly come out? “If someone wakes me up, like Kiki (his daughter), I’m just not a pleasant person.”
Such candidness sheds light on the challenges celebrities face, reminding us that awareness and introspection are vital, no matter one’s level of fame.
