Meta Quest users no longer have to navigate the cumbersome browser to access Discord for chatting with friends on PC or console. With the launch of the Discord app in the Horizon Store, seamless gaming communication is now a reality. This new native app not only runs in the background but can also serve as an alternative for the native Quest chat during online VR gaming sessions. Importantly, it connects users with all their Discord contacts, regardless of the platform they are usingβ€”be it PC, smartphone, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X/S.

The Quest version of Discord comes equipped with a familiar feature that enhances its usability: users can watch gameplay streams from other Discord members on a large virtual screen within the headset. This feature employs a specially designed spatial representation, providing an immersive viewing experience. The functionality extends to users being able to stream their own VR experiences or share photos and videos easily.

To kick off this launch, Discord offers a welcome bonus of one month of the premium Nitro subscription, usually priced at around 10 euros monthly. To qualify, users must download and log in to the app between June 30 and September 30, 2026. Note that the promo code is only available to new users. Nitro unlocks various features, including HD streaming and larger file uploads.

While the user interface mirrors that of the PC and smartphone versions, navigating with hand tracking or VR controllers is relatively straightforward. Speaking is seamless thanks to the built-in headset microphone. However, text input poses a challenge for those who prefer not to connect a Bluetooth keyboard, as they have to rely on the cumbersome virtual keyboard that the headset provides.

Unfortunately, Discord for Meta Quest isn’t running as smoothly as expected. Users have reported frequent crashes, with the app closing unexpectedly every few minutes. Screen-sharing features are also unstable, often disconnecting unexpectedly. Current ratings in the Horizon Store reflect these issues, with an average score of 3.2 stars, indicating a need for further development and improvements from Discord’s developers.

Discord is now available for free in the Horizon Store. This app supports not only the latest Meta Quest 3 and 3S models but also older devices like the Quest Pro and Quest 2, making it accessible to a wide range of users.
