Key Highlights of the Offer
Lidl is currently offering the Midea PortaSplit Cool for €599, which is a significant €300 less than the recommended retail price of €899 — a discount of 33%. In comparison, Cyberport is selling the same unit for €698.90, while Amazon and OBI are asking around €750.
This makes Lidl the cheapest retailer for the PortaSplit Cool on the market right now. It’s crucial to note that this device only provides cooling and does not include a heating function like its original version that is suitable for winter use.
What is the Midea PortaSplit Cool?
First, it’s important to clarify that the model offered by Lidl is the Cool variant and not the device we’ve extensively tested (the standard PortaSplit air conditioning unit with heating capabilities). Understanding these differences is essential to determine if this deal fits your needs.
Like the tested model, the Cool variant consists of two units: an indoor unit on wheels and a small outdoor unit connected by a flat refrigerant hose. This technical advantage over classic monoblock air conditioners with exhaust hoses is significant: there is no underpressure in the room and no warm outside air is sucked in through cracks, making the cooling much more efficient.
Moreover, users can easily install the device themselves at a (roof) window or balcony railing without drilling or the need for a qualified technician.
What Can the Cool Variant Do, and What Can’t It?
The PortaSplit Cool is a 3-in-1 device—it can cool, dehumidify, and ventilate. However, compared to the standard PortaSplit, it is a deliberate reduction; the key point in the product name is already there: “Cool” means exclusively cooling.
This model does not include a heating function and cannot be retrofitted for heating. If you want to use the device for heating in winter, you will need to opt for the standard PortaSplit.
Is the Lidl Deal Worth It?
Yes, with a clear caveat.
€599 for a mobile split air conditioner with A++ efficiency, quiet split technology, and tool-free installation is an excellent market price. The Lidl price is currently approximately €100-150 lower than the nearest competitor.
However, the 8,000 BTU performance is only suitable for spaces of up to about 28 m². For a bedroom, home office, or smaller rental apartment, this is completely sufficient. Those looking to cool larger living rooms, open kitchens, or rooms over 30 m² should consider the standard PortaSplit, which costs at least €800.
If you also plan to use the air conditioner for heating in winter, you will be purchasing the wrong model. The Cool does not heat.
Who Will This Deal Work For?
- You want reliable cooling for a bedroom or home office (up to 28 m²).
- You are a renter and cannot drill.
- You want a pure summer device with no need for winter heating.
- You are looking for proven split technology without the extra cost for heating functionality.
Who Should Look Elsewhere?
- Spaces larger than 30 m² or with open layouts.
- Those wanting to heat and cool year-round.
- Those who need the maximum cooling capacity of the full model.
Tip: For anyone who finds the Cool variant too small, we recommend looking at the Midea Porta Split in the standard version.
