Ex-Empress Farah Diba Remembers Late Daughter Leila (†31)
Ex-Empress Farah Diba of Iran has faced numerous life’s trials. Recently, she took to Instagram to emotionally remember her late daughter, Leila.
Though 25 years have passed, the pain remains profound. Farah Diba (87) mourns her daughter, Princess Leila (†31), who tragically passed away in 2001. Leila was found dead in a London hotel room, with toxicology reports later confirming an overdose of sleeping pills, cocaine, and painkillers. While the sorrow of losing her beloved youngest daughter will likely never fade, Farah can at least share her grief with her compatriots. In a heartfelt Instagram post, she paid tribute to Leila and thanked those who remembered her on the anniversary of her death.
Reflecting on 25 Years Since Leila’s Death
June 10 will forever be a day of horror for Farah Diba. Each year, a memorial service is held around this date at Leila’s mausoleum in Paris, attended by Iranians from around the globe, as mentioned in a prior post. Almost two weeks after this ceremony, the 87-year-old once again shared a post featuring a smiling photo of Princess Leila.
Gratitude for Support on the Anniversary of Leila’s Passing
In her post, Farah Diba expressed: “My dear compatriots, this year, on the anniversary of my beloved Leila’s death, I witnessed your great gathering, which you made so moving with your presence. I am deeply grateful for your solidarity and compassion. In hope for the victory of light over darkness.”
Leila’s Struggles with Mental Health
In the words of Farah, “I tried everything to help her. Sadly, she chose to leave our world to end her suffering. I miss my little Leila every day.” Leila faced chronic exhaustion, depression, and an eating disorder. Forced to flee Iran with her family at a young age, she lived an unstable life across various countries, including Egypt, Morocco, the Bahamas, Mexico, the USA, and Panama— a difficult childhood indeed. Tragically, she also lost her father to leukemia when she was just ten years old.
Farah Diba’s Heartbreaking Losses
A decade after Leila’s passing, her brother Ali Reza Pahlavi (†44) also took his life after struggling with depression. Thus, Farah Diba has endured a total of three tragic losses that continue to weigh on her daily. Nevertheless, every year on the anniversary of their deaths, she appears resilient, honoring the memory of her beloved family members.
