A Narrow Escape: Risky Boeing Low Pass Shocks Aviation Community
A Boeing 777 narrowly avoided disaster in Texas during a dangerously low flyover, with footage showing its wing almost touching the ground.
Horseshoe Bay (Texas/USA) – The aviation world is currently in turmoil over shocking footage of a Boeing 777, designated for Qatar Airways Cargo, which nearly faced catastrophe during a low flyover. The video captures the right wing of the massive cargo jet dangerously close to the ground.
The modified cargo aircraft was on a test flight and performed a symbolic flyover of Jetran’s headquarters in Horseshoe Bay on its way to Fort Worth, according to Simple Flying.
However, the pilot appeared to push the limits too far, initiating a right turn at the lowest point, nearly flying at ground level according to flight data evaluation. Experts have labeled it an extremely risky maneuver.
This Boeing 777-200LR, approximately 17 years old, was previously in passenger service with Delta Air Lines before being converted into a prototype for a new cargo aircraft version, destined to strengthen Qatar Airways Cargo’s fleet.
The Risky Flyover is Now Under Investigation
In response to the incident, Jetran promptly distanced itself from the event. The company stated that the flyover did not align with their operational standards and has initiated an internal investigation.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has also confirmed its awareness of the incident. “The FAA is aware of reports and is currently investigating the situation,” stated a representative in a comment to Flying.
It remains unclear whether any safety regulations were violated. However, if it turns out the low flyover was unauthorized, the responsible pilot could face severe consequences.
