Russia has reported intercepting over 600 Ukrainian drones last night, marking what is likely the largest attack since the beginning of the year. Meanwhile, Justice Minister Hubig has arrived in Kyiv.

According to Moscow’s claims, Ukrainian forces launched a substantial drone offensive last night. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that 660 Ukrainian drones were intercepted over Russian territories and the annexed Crimean Peninsula.

Nature of the Attack

This attack has been deemed the most severe drone strike of the year by the state-run Russian news agency, Tass. Moscow’s Mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, reported that 47 Ukrainian drones were shot down en route toward the Russian capital. However, he did not provide information regarding casualties or damages.

Reports of Damage to Industrial Facilities

Dmitry Myliyayev, the governor of the Tula region, situated south of Moscow, mentioned on Telegram that 157 drones were intercepted over the area. He reported damage to a high-voltage line and an industrial plant in Nowomoskovsk.

The independent Russian online media outlet Astra reported that a chemical plant and a hydropower station in Nowomoskovsk were attacked and caught fire. This facility is likely part of Azot, an enterprise that allegedly supplies explosives to the Russian military, according to Ukrainian claims.

Over recent months, Ukraine has intensified its airstrikes on Russian military installations and energy infrastructure. Last week, a Ukrainian attack caused a massive fire in a refinery in southeastern Moscow.

Diplomatic Developments

In a concurrent development, Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig arrived in Kyiv for her first official visit. Discussions with representatives from the government and civil society are scheduled, as indicated by a ministry spokesperson.

Additionally, the signing of a work program for collaboration between the justice ministries of both countries is planned, extending until 2028.
