In Qatar, 54 people were injured on Sunday in an explosion at the world’s largest LNG facility. Another 18 people are missing. This is reported by the Ministry of the Interior. The incident happened at a factory in the Ras Laffan industrial estate.
A journalist from the AFP news agency saw flames and a plume of smoke in the distance. Ras Laffan is the site of Qatar’s main export terminal for the sale of natural gas. The terminal was targeted by Iran during the war and has been closed for weeks since.
Qatar reported that the explosion occurred after workers tried to restart installations at the Barzan factory. The Qatari Interior Ministry previously announced the explosion, but initially reported that only a few injuries had been reported.
