FC Augsburg has committed to goalkeeper Marcel Lubik long-term until 2029, but has initially loaned the 22-year-old Pole to his home country, Wisła Krakow, in order to gain match practice there. Lubik moved to the Augsburg youth team in 2018 and has already spent the past two seasons on loan at GKS Tychy and Górnik Zabrze. In the Ekstraklasa, the keeper was between the posts 33 times, conceded 31 goals and kept ten clean sheets. He recently celebrated cup victory and runner-up with Górnik Zabrze and the German 2014 world champion Lukas Podolski.

“Marcel has made great development in recent years, won the cup with Górnik Zabrze in Poland and showed strong performances there as the starting goalkeeper. By extending his contract, we are sending a clear signal that we continue to rely on him and trust him to play an important role at FCA in the future. We wish him every success on the loan to Krakow,” explained FCA sporting director Benjamin Weber.

Lubik said: “I am very pleased about the trust of the FCA and the early contract extension. The past year in the Polish Ekstraklasa was very important for my development and I am convinced that the next step to Krakow will also help me. My big goal remains to assert myself at FC Augsburg in the long term and to gain a permanent foothold in the Bundesliga.”
