The route
The Lausitzring is one of the most technically demanding circuits on the DTM calendar. The 3.478 kilometer long route near Schipkau in Brandenburg challenges drivers and equipment alike. Twelve corners, including several very slow sections, a few long straights and a rough asphalt surface ensure that the set-up of the cars is particularly important. Another trademark of the traditional course are the numerous bumps, which can also cause unrest in the vehicle.

Maini secures Sunday pole
Pole position for Sunday’s race was secured by Arjun Maini in the Ford. The works driver lapped the 3.478 kilometer long Lausitzring in 1:19.750 minutes and thus took the lead. For Maini, it is the second pole of his DTM career, after he was able to start at the front at the Red Bull Ring in 2024. Next to him, Matteo Cairoli starts the race from the front row in the Ferrari. Nicki Thiim put his Ford in third place, while DTM rookie Finn Wiebelhaus brought the second HRT Ford fourth on the second row of the grid. Luca Engstler in a Lamborghini and Manthey-Porsche driver Thomas Preining follow in fifth and sixth place on the grid. Maro Engel was the best Mercedes driver in seventh place.

Auer takes over the driver championship
Lucas Auer didn’t have the best race with his rain tire strategy. However, things went even worse for Maro Engel, who only took one point. As a result, Auer once again overtakes his brand colleague in the championship. Auer now has 72 points in his account. Engel gets 68 points. Immediately behind is yesterday’s winner Dörr with 67 points.

Fifth winner in the fifth race
On Saturday, the DTM celebrated its fifth winner in the fifth round of the season. The race at the Lausitzring offered plenty to talk about: a cloudburst shortly before the start led to different tire choices and turbulent first laps. At first, pole sitter Nicki Thiim seemed to benefit from tire poker. Although the Dane fell behind at the start on dry tires, he fought his way back to the front as the track dried and took the lead. Then a full-course yellow phase after Timo Glock’s retirement turned the race around. Mapelli, Dörr and Feller came into the pits at exactly the right time, saving crucial time and passing Thiim. Marco Mapelli was initially at the top of the podium, but received a 15-second penalty for speeding under FCY. Ben Dörr was therefore considered the winner. Mapelli came second as Feller also received a time penalty. However, Feller remained third.
