The blue foil is always golden. In Antony, France, the Italy of Arianna Errigo, Martina Batini, Anna Cristino and Martina Favaretto dominated the hosts in the final and won the European title. It is the fifth consecutive continental title for the Italian foil players led by coach Simone Vanni, the 17th ever and it comes at the end of an incredible day, with a clear supremacy in all attacks. In the quarterfinals they beat Poland 45-27, in the semifinals they beat Ukraine 45-22. “It was an extraordinary day – these are the words of the coach Simone Vanni -. Such large victories give the illusion that it was easy to win the gold, and instead we knew how to fight as a real team. And then we beat France on their home ground, making up for last year’s defeat at the World Cup”.

Fourth place for the men’s team saber: Cosimo Bertini, Michele Gallo, Matteo Neri and Pietro Torre lost the final for the bronze with France (45-32). Tomorrow in Antony the women’s team épée (Rossella Fiamingo, Giulia Rizzi, Alberta Santuccio, Gaia Caforio) and the men’s team foil (Guillaume Bianchi, Filippo Macchi, Tommaso Marini, Giulio Lombardi) will take to the stage.
