It was known that it would be haunted, but it was not predicted that a storm would arise in the north of North Holland on Friday evening.

Board member Sebas Konijn was there last night with some other volunteers: “It was actually completely windless and we wondered whether we should put up some tents. Suddenly it broke out and ten minutes later everything was ruined.”

Financial hit

In the morning, after intensive consultation and careful assessment, the festival was finally decided with ‘pain in the heart’ to cancel. “We have investigated the possibility of working with just the main stage, but so much is broken that it is simply no longer safe,” says Mitsy Haeck of the organization. “It’s surreal, I just cried.”

The storm did not only cause material damage. The festival, which was sold out with five thousand visitors, is also taking a financial hit. “We hope that there will be enough left to ensure that we can organize a great edition next year. It may be smaller, but we are not working on that yet,” says Haeck.

Understanding and sweet messages

Van Dik Hout, S10 and Ronnie Flex would perform at the festival. They were canceled and responded with understanding. There is also a lot of support from the village. “We have been inundated with sweet messages. There are many residents who immediately offered their help last night. That is very good for us. Then you see what a small village can be great at.”

Ticket buyers will be informed as soon as possible about the practical handling. New information is shared through the official channels of Julianapop.
