Türkiye at the World Cup
—
Turkey returns to the World Cup after 24 years thanks to a double victory in the playoffs. With Vincenzo Montella on the bench and a host of excellent players, first and foremost the “Italians” Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Kenan Yıldız, the team is set to be one of the loose cannons of the tournament, backed by a solid and imaginative 4-2-3-1, in which Real Madrid star Arda Güler is free to vary and aim for the goal. This is the third participation in the history of the competition in the American World Cup, the first since the 2002 Korea-Japan edition, when Turkey finished with an incredible third place. After a disastrous first day, the objective in this Group D is to save their skin, gaining the points necessary to obtain a qualification which, whatever happens, risks being quite disappointing.
