In Indianapolis the 24-year-old New Yorker lowers the previous limit of the Swede Sarah Sjostrom by 2 cents and becomes the fastest woman in the world in the pool
Hurricane Kate Douglass. The American sets a new world record in the 50m freestyle and becomes the fastest woman in the pool. The 24-year-old from Pelham, New York, erased the previous limit of Swedish Sarah Sjostrom by two cents, which dated back to the semifinal on July 29, 2023 at the World Championships in Fukuoka (Japan). An incredible race at the US Pro Swim Series in Indianapolis, where compatriot Gretchen Walsh finished second in 23″78, also under the old national record. For Douglass, freestyle but also breaststroker and mixed runner, a record resulting from training in Charlottesville, where she trains with Sara Curtis and Gretchen Walsh, beaten by 19 cents. Now at Walsh she will land in Rome for the Settecolli, where she will meet the Swedish Olympian who has become a mother.
