UPDATE
A 70-year-old driver died in a tragic accident in Elsegem, a sub-municipality of Wortegem-Petegem in East Flanders. Her car was hit by a train at a railway crossing.
The incident occurred at the railway crossing in Kwadenbulk, on the border with Anzegem in West Flanders. The car containing the woman was hit at the crossing by a train heading towards Kortrijk. The driver is the only victim of the accident. She did not survive the blow.

Mayor of Wortegem-Petegem Luc Vander Meeren explains the complex emergency services on site. “The 70-year-old victim is currently still trapped in the car. The train will therefore have to move back a bit to free the lady,” said the mayor.
The travelers are still stuck on the train for the time being. According to the mayor, this concerns about 50 passengers. To make the waiting time more bearable, the fire brigade has now brought bottled water on board.
