Police tracked down James after a key to a rented van was found in a bag that the perpetrator probably left on the subway. James was the renter of the van. The police found the van in a street near the station where the perpetrator probably boarded the metro. The bag also contained a pistol, three ammunition magazines, an axe, fireworks and a flammable liquid.
The police are looking for James. But according to the head of the investigation team, it is still unclear exactly what James has to do with the shooting. “We’re trying to find him to determine his exact connection to the subway shooting, if there is one.” Police are offering $50,000 for information leading to arrest.
YouTube channel full of monologues
Looks like James was running a YouTube channel. He then gives long monologues in which he talks in racist and threatening language and with a lot of name-calling about black Americans, politics and gun violence. According to American media, he also says in one of the videos that he had previously had psychological problems, and was therefore imprisoned. It is also reported that he complained on social media about New York Mayor Eric Adams. That is why it has been given extra security.
Mayor Adams says the search for the shooter will be complicated because at least one of the cameras at the subway station was not working. According to Adams, this was due to a malfunction in the system. The police were therefore much more dependent on the videos that eyewitnesses made of the incident. The announcement drew a lot of criticism. New York has been dealing with increasing violence for some time, including in the subway.
