In the last few days, visitors to the Hurricane Festival 2026 have been informed that there would be extreme heat during the concert days. The German Weather Service also warned of the risk of severe weather. The first heat thunderstorms were announced for Friday morning and early afternoon.

According to information from the organizers at 6 a.m., the thunderstorm cell has now passed the festival site. There was no known damage. However, “lightning struck in the forest about 500 meters north of the Eichenring,” according to a report. This caused a loud bang and thunder in the early hours of the morning.

It goes on to say that only rain is expected over the next few hours. According to the weather forecast, Friday will bring humid, warm and unsettled weather with a temperature of up to 31 degrees. The sun will shine almost continuously over the Neuhausen ob Eck airfield, but there will be hardly any wind. There shouldn’t be any more rain.

Oppressive warm weather with a few clouds is expected for Saturday. In some cases the perceived temperature is even higher, up to 37 degrees. There is hardly any cooling down at night. Strong summer temperatures of over 30 degrees are also forecast for Sunday.

Update: There are occasional problems getting to the festival. There are significant delays in train traffic on the route between Bremen and Hamburg. The Metronom railway company cites the morning’s storm and lightning strike as the reason. Failures are possible.

How do you protect yourself from the heat?

It’s best to bring empty, foldable drinking bottles or Tetra Paks up to 1 liter with you to fill up at the free drinking water points on site. The organizer recommends wearing light, airy clothing made of breathable fabrics such as cotton or linen and protecting your head with a cap. In order not to expose the skin to too much stress, we recommend a waterproof sunscreen with a high sun protection factor (at least 30, more likely 50). Free sun protection is provided on site. Ideally, direct sunlight should be avoided at midday. Anyone who drinks alcoholic beverages should drink water regularly afterwards to prevent dehydration and circulatory problems in the mosh pit.
