The Campi Flegrei circuit crowns Matisse Van Kerckhove as the new master of the Giro Next Gen at the end of a spectacular stage, characterized by continuous attacks and numerous twists. On the Bacoli seafront, the Belgian Visma runner | Lease a Bike got the better of Nicolò Arrighetti, the last survivor of the day’s escape. The group of the best in the general classification closed with a delay of 11″, regulated in the sprint by Thor Michielsen. Van Kerckhove had reached the lead of the race at the end of the penultimate lap. A few kilometers later, the accelerations of the world champion Lorenzo Mark Finn drastically separated the chasing group. Among the riders who remained behind was also the Pink Jersey rider Jasper Schoofs, who got into difficulty at the start of the penultimate lap and was forced to give up the symbol of the record after two days. Shortly before of the last ascent towards Monte di Procida, Van Kerckhove and Arrighetti gained a margin that proved decisive in the race for stage success. This is the Belgian’s seventh victory of the season, a success which also allows him to leap into the lead of the general classification with 15″ over his compatriot Vanhuffel and 17″ over the Frenchman Sparfel, on the eve of the first uphill finish. The Corsa Rosa will face the first big test for the men in the rankings tomorrow with the rise to the top 1,352 meters of Subiaco – Monte Livata, where the general ranking could change again.
