Liverpool’s new coach Andoni Iraola lures a Spanish compatriot to the Reds. After several media outlets initially reported on Thursday that the top English club was about to sign Víctor Muñoz, the Reds announced the agreement in the evening. The CA Osasuna winger was actually considered a transfer target for Newcastle United. The negotiations were said to have already been at an advanced stage before Liverpool intervened. According to the LFC, the work permit and international clearance are still open.
Muñoz, who is part of the Spanish national team at the World Cup, recently reached an oral agreement with the LFC. In addition, he had already completed the medical check, which is why the 22-year-old had to activate his exit clause of 40 million euros, which was anchored in the contract until 2030, in the next step. This has now happened. The left winger is said to have signed at Anfield Road until 2032.
Muñoz came to Osasuna from Real Madrid’s youth squad for €5 million just last summer. The Royals, who are also said to have had the opportunity to return, are said to be earning money. Thanks to a resale share, Real should receive half of the transfer fee, i.e. 20 million euros. At Osasuna, Muñoz becomes a record departure.
Muñoz has increased his market value from 1 million to 30 million euros in the last twelve months – an increase of 2,900 percent. “He came from Real Madrid and was given a quiet environment and playing time to develop,” said Tobias Blaseio, Spanish market value administrator at Transfermarkt, as part of the LaLiga update at the beginning of June. At Liverpool FC he is to take over the position that is vacant after the departure of long-time top player Mohamed Salah.
