“He was spray painting a Jaguar when the car caught fire,” the young man said in conversation with NH. A few meters behind him, his father sits on the sidewalk, with a bandage on his arm. “He tried to put it out himself, but then the car started burning somewhere else.”

When neighbors noticed the fire around 10:30 a.m., they rushed outside and raised the alarm. The fire brigade closes off the street and scales up considerably. Ultimately, there are about ten fire engines in the street, including one that is used to extinguish heath fires.

Putting out the fire is not easy, says a fire brigade spokesperson in conversation with NH. This has to do with the location of the company, behind residential houses in the street, but also due to problems with water extraction. “We finally solved that by having a large water transport.”

Neighbor in socks awaits fire extinguisher

While the fire brigade tries to extinguish the fire from a ladder truck, a neighbor tells us that she is anxiously awaiting the condition of her home. “I think we just have smoke damage.”

According to a spokesperson for the Gooi en Vechtstreek Safety Region, the fire has not spread to other buildings, although a neighbor claims that he was affected. “My pergola burned down,” he says.

The fire brigade declared the fire under control around 1 p.m. and the cordon was lifted. The exact extent of the damage is not yet known. Does the insurance cover the damage? “We’ll see,” concludes the owner’s son.
