Nicky van der Gijp, who currently appears on screen everywhere a ball rolls because he is René van der Gijp’s son, denies that he wears a very expensive Cartier watch. “It’s a Casio.”
Unfortunately for Nicky van der Gijp, he is not to the liking of all TV viewers. He can currently be seen daily as a World Cup Football analyst on SBS 6, but everyone knows that there is only one reason why he suddenly achieved such a top position on that mass medium, namely purely because he is the son of the famous René van der Gijp.
Mostly dredging
Nicky himself states that it is not too bad. “It’s not too bad, right?” he responds The Telegraph. “Reactions on social media are often rubbish anyway, even under messages from Today Inside. People like to do that, so you have to deal with that.”
He doesn’t care what the viewers think. “I regularly ask the editor for feedback about what I can do better. That’s what I listen to. But I don’t listen to what Jantje or Pietje on X says.”
Casio watch
Actually, Nicky mainly looks at the positive reactions. “I think a lot of people also like what I do. In any case, I get a lot of sweet messages.”
He is not bothered by the critical reactions. “Sometimes I find them very funny. Like when someone posted a message every day for a week that I am a ‘showman with a Cartier watch’. Well, then I have to laugh. I have a Casio watch worth sixty bucks.”
