The municipality of Schagen stated in a response that it will not take any additional measures. “At the moment there are no signals from the municipality and the police of disturbances around the fair,” says Mayor Marjan van Kampen-Nouwen.
However, as in previous years, security guards are present on the site, especially during the weekend when the fair is busy. The municipality also deploys additional boas.
Investing in safety
Amsterdam ‘fair king’ Frans Stuy is convinced that investing in safety can pay off. In the past four years he has increased security at his fairs in Beverwijk and Amsterdam. From high fences and detection gates to extra security guards and camera surveillance.
“I haven’t had any more incidents since then. Things are really going much better,” says the fairground operator. “If something is going on, or something happens, we respond immediately.”
