Thomas Tuchel remains reserved when singing the anthem – but a World Cup final could change everything. Which stops him from singing along just yet.
“God save the King” – but not yet. England coach Thomas Tuchel has made it clear that he doesn’t want to sing the British royal anthem until the World Cup final. He remains silent in the opening game against Croatia.
When he was introduced as England national coach, the German explained that he would first have to earn this right. The former Bayern and Dortmund coach told the Telegraph: “Not yet. I don’t think we’re that far yet.”
Tuchel also named the time: “Right at the end” – i.e. in the final. He explained why he remained silent until then: “I don’t want to offend anyone and I don’t want to focus on this topic.”
