Eduardo Bolsonaro, a son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, was sentenced on Tuesday to four years and two months in prison. According to the Brazilian Supreme Court, he tried to encourage American interference in the legal case against his father.
41-year-old Eduardo Bolsonaro has lived in the United States since 2025 and risks arrest if he returns to Brazil. In addition, he is not allowed to hold public office for the next eight years.
Brazil’s public prosecutor accused Eduardo Bolsonaro of urging US authorities to pressure Brazil’s Supreme Court. He is said to have advocated sanctions against judges and higher import tariffs on Brazilian goods to influence the criminal case against his father over his involvement in the coup attempt in early 2023.
