Saskia Belleman consciously chose not to stay at RTL and move on from RTL Tonight to Renze Klamer’s talk show. Why does she explicitly choose Pauw & De Wit?
It is quite a statement from Saskia Belleman that after the failed RTL Tonight adventure she chooses to leave the entire channel and switch to Pauw & De Wit. What does this say about her feelings about Renze Klamer, who will take over from RTL Tonight? Does she think he’s not good enough or is there something else going on?
No experiment
Saskia now provides clarity about her transfer in front of the camera RTL Boulevard. “To be honest, for the new year I needed something that was already in place, which is no longer an experiment, but which has simply proven itself.”
She continues: “I really like it. I think their talk show is just a talk show that has a serious journalistic quality and I feel at home with that, so when I was approached by Pauw & De Wit, I thought: that should be it.”
Build up completely
Renze is a good presenter, Saskia emphasizes. “I hesitated about it for a long time, because I honestly have every confidence in Renze Klamer and the way he is going to approach it, but of course he has to start from scratch and build everything up completely, so that will be a challenge.”
One thing is certain: she likes that RTL has given her new insights. “When RTL Tonight offered me a contract, I thought: that’s actually nice and quiet. One talk show, clearly.”
One talk show
The one-talk show model is going to keep Saskia. “I liked that, so yes, now I have more or less committed myself to Pauw & De Wit.”
She concludes: “That does not mean that I never make a trip to another program, because I am of course also self-employed and working on all kinds of topics such as femicide.”
