From now on, Ostend wants to roll out a broader approach – with the help of bridge figures – in order to reach more vulnerable schoolchildren from all schools. The volunteers don’t really believe in that plan. “We cannot accept that just abruptly stopping and leaving the children out in the cold. Supporters cannot replace those homework classes. I don’t think so. We are going to keep fighting. We demand that it definitely continues next year.”
Next Monday, the city will explain its plans for further support to vulnerable children to volunteers.
