Marius Borg Høiby will not be released, reports NRK. This is what the Oslo District Court decided.
He was sentenced today to four years in prison for several different crimes.
Since Høiby has appealed, the sentence is not legally binding. The Court of Appeal still has to process the appeal.
After the verdict was announced, the defense attorneys, Petar Sekulic and Ellen Holager Andenæshowever, submitted a release request.
The application was processed in a court session shortly after the verdict was announced.
The court has decided not to release Høiby.
– I have had time to take a look at the decision. His request for release was not accepted, defender Sekulic tells NRK.
Family reasons
In his arguments for release, Marius’ lawyer cited the deteriorating health of Marius’ mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit. Mette-Marit was put on the lung transplant list two weeks ago.
– It is unbearable for him (Marius) to be away from his family now, Marius’ lawyer Sekulic said.
Marius’ lawyers Petar Sekulic and Ellen Holager Andenaes went to see Marius in prison today. PDO
Until now, Marius has been on remand in Oslo prison.
– Marius Borg Høiby needs his family and the family, especially his mother, needs him. There is no doubt about it. The mother’s situation and her desire to be with her son must also be assessed, Sekulic said.
Andenæs said earlier today that Marius wanted to see his mother.
– Marius is desperate, he wants to be with his mother, Andenæs tells VG.
The court decided a week ago that Marius will be released. The prosecutor filed a complaint, as a result of which Marius remained imprisoned.
