A woman from Haren has been scammed and has lost thousands of euros as a result. She received a text message that seemed to come from her bank, asking her to call ‘the bank’. But then she got on the phone with a scammer.

It all happened on March 24 in the afternoon. The woman receives a message that someone in Düsseldorf has logged in online to her bank. If she has not done this, she must call the number in the text message.

She does. However, the woman does not get the bank on the phone, but a scammer who pretends to be a bank employee. He advises her to change her login details. She has to create a new PIN and pass it on to him.

Suddenly thousands of euros gone
It doesn’t stop there. He also asks her to transfer money from her savings account to her current account.

The conversation lasts less than half an hour and the victim does not get a good feeling about it. She decides to look at her bank account and is shocked. The woman sees that thousands of euros have been debited.

Man drinks a pin in Amersfoort
This was done just before by someone at an ATM in Amersfoort, as can be seen in images shown by Bureau Brabant on Monday. The man is pinning with his phone. It is not clear whether it is the same man as the man who spoke to the woman on the phone.

The police are looking for the man. He has a dark complexion and wore a black jacket, cap and shoes and blue sweatpants and hoodie during the transaction. Anyone who knows anything is asked to contact the police on 0800-6070 or anonymously on 0800-7000.

Never call just any number
Never just call a number or click on a link in a similar text message, the police still advise. Check your bank’s app to see if something is wrong or call the bank via a number that you look up yourself.

Bureau Brabant is broadcast every Monday at 5:15 PM.
