According to consistent reports, Mitchell Weiser will remain at SV Werder Bremen. As the “Kicker” and the “Deichstube” report, the 32-year-old wing player is to receive a new performance-based contract until 2027 with the option of a further year. In recent months, both sides have not been able to agree on the details of an extension.
It is planned that Weiser’s current basic salary of around 2 million euros will be reduced, while in return a higher bonus payment would be possible. The Green-Whites are still convinced of the qualities of the veteran, who was released on a free transfer in the summer, but they want to keep the risk within limits, they say. According to “Bild”, the former German junior international initially insisted on a term of up to three years (for statistics: all Bundesliga players with a contract expiring in 2026).
Weiser initially moved to Bremen from Leverkusen on loan in August 2021 and was permanently signed by the northern club a year later. The Troisdorf native played 123 times for SVW and delivered 14 goals and 29 assists. Almost a year ago he tore his cruciate ligament, which put him out of action for a long time. Weiser was completely unused in 2025/26.

The leading player took his employer to task in April and said: “The whole club was striving for something different than where we are now. (…) It’s true that a lot of things happened last summer that were questionable for me.” Sports director Clemens Fritz countered the criticism by saying that the Bremen team wanted to change their direction.
