At least six people have been killed in a collision between two helicopters above the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. One of the victims is the American singer-songwriter Oliver Tree, the news agency reports AFP.
The two planes collided over the Recreio dos Bandeirantes district in the west of the city. So far, six deaths have been confirmed, all occupants of the two helicopters.
The helicopters crashed in a car dealer’s parking lot, causing a major fire, the fire brigade said. Twenty cars were reduced to ashes.
Tree on world tour
32-year-old Oliver Tree was in Brazil for a world tour. Concerts in Europe were planned in July. He was known for songs such as Life Goes On, Miss You and Alien Boy, which have been listened to hundreds of millions of times on Spotify.
According to the Brazilian aviation authority Cenipa, 153 aviation incidents took place in Brazil last year, resulting in 62 deaths.
