The excitement in the 2026 FIFA World Cup continued with the Netherlands-Japan match. In the opening match of Group F, two ambitious teams met at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, USA. The first half of the match ended with a goalless draw, and the goals came one after another as the tempo increased in the second half. The answer to the Netherlands, which made the score 1-0 with Virgil van Dijk in the 51st minute, came from Keito Nakamura 6 minutes later. The Netherlands took the lead 2-1 with the goal of Crysencio Summerville at the 64th minute. When the minutes showed 89 minutes, Japan equalized the score again with Daichi Kamada.
There were no goals scored in the remaining part of the match and the sides started the tournament with one point each.
The Netherlands will play against Sweden in their next match on Saturday, June 20, at 20:00 CET. Japan will face off against Tunisia on Sunday, June 21st at 07:00 CET.
