Darts prodigy Luke Littler led England to triumph at the World Team Championships in Frankfurt am Main.

Together with Luke Humphries, the world number one beat the Dutch Michael van Gerwen and Gian van Veen 10:5 in the final.

For the 19-year-old Littler, it is the first title at the team world championship; Humphries already won two years ago – back then alongside Michael Smith.

After a balanced start, the top favorites from England pulled away in the dream final by winning five legs in a row and leading 6-2. Even after that, individual world champions Littler and Humphries dominated the event.

The two will receive 100,000 British pounds, or around 115,000 euros, for their victory.

Schindler/Pietreczko have no chance in the quarter-finals

The German darts duo Martin Schindler and Ricardo Pietreczko had failed in the quarter-finals against the Dutch a few hours earlier. The two were clearly beaten 4:8 against the former world number one van Gerwen and vice world champion van Veen.

Last year, Schindler/Pietreczko had reached the semi-finals and along the way had sensationally knocked Littler/Humphries out of the tournament in the round of 16.

For Schindler/Pietreczko, the Netherlands were the first real benchmark in the tournament. The Germans started the game well, leading 2-0.

But then Oranje turned up the heat. Germany won confidently in the group phase against the Philippines (4:0) and New Zealand (4:2) and defeated the Czech Republic (8:6) in the round of 16.

Germany is still waiting for its first team World Cup title

As expected, the final stop was against the Netherlands. Germany is still waiting for its first title at the so-called World Cup of Darts.

In total, the World Team Championships were endowed with prize money of 500,000 British pounds (around 580,000 euros). Schindler/Pietreczko still received around 23,000 euros.
