The 2026 Football World Cup begins in a few days. These national teams have so far been able to prevail against global competition most often.
From June 11, 2026, the football world will be looking at the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada. These national teams have so far been able to delight their fans with the coveted title most often.

9th place: The ranking
This ranking presents the national teams with the most World Cup titles in football. The status is December 18, 2022.

8th place: Spain
La Furija Roja became world champion for the first time in South Africa in 2010. The Spaniards beat the Netherlands 1-0 in extra time. The Selección also came fourth in 1950 behind Brazil, Sweden and Uruguay.

7th place: England
The fatherland of football has so far won one World Cup title. In the 1966 final, England beat the German national team on home soil 4-2 after extra time. The Three Lions also finished fourth behind third-placed Italy in 1990 and fourth behind Belgium in 2018.

6th place: Uruguay
Uruguay has already won the title of football world champion twice. In the first year of the World Cup in 1930, the team made Argentina runner-up with a 4-2 win. In 1950, Uruguay won the title without playing a final. The World Cup was played within a group. Uruguay took the lead in the table and thus the World Cup trophy with a 2-1 win over Brazil in the last game. The team also came fourth twice.

5th place: France
France has managed to win the World Cup twice so far. In 1998 in their own country, the final did not end well for the selection from Brazil, and in 2018 in Russia, when the Equipe Tricolore defeated Croatia 4-2. The French team also achieved second place twice and third place twice during a World Cup.

4th place: Argentina
Back in 1978, the Argentine national football team defeated an opponent in the final for the first time. In the end it was 3-1 against the Netherlands after extra time. In 1986 the final against Germany followed with a score of 3-2. Messi and his teammates were also able to collect the trophy in Qatar in 2022 – after a penalty thriller against France. The Argentines also won two World Cup runner-up titles.

3rd place: Italy
The Squadra Azzurra has won the World Cup final four times. The Italians secured the cup in 1934 with a 2-1 win after extra time against Czechoslovakia, in 1938 with a 4-2 win over Hungary and in 1982 with a 3-1 win against the German national team. The last time the Italian team won a final was in Germany in 2006. Here France was beaten 5-3 on penalties.

2nd place: Germany
The German football team has celebrated four world championship titles so far. In 1954, Germany defeated Hungary 3-2, in 1974 the Netherlands 2-1 and in 1990 Argentina, thanks to a penalty goal from Andreas Brehme, won 1-0. In the most recent World Cup victory in 2014, the final opponent was Argentina, and in 2014 Germany was able to beat Argentina 1-0, but only in extra time: Mario Götze scored the German team’s fourth World Cup victory in the 113th minute. In addition, Germany has been runner-up four times behind England, Italy, Argentina and Brazil.

1st place: Brazil
Brazil has already conquered the crown of soccer world champion five times and is therefore clearly number one in the top ranking. In 1958 the Seleção beat Sweden 5-2, in 1962 Czechoslovakia 3-1, in 1970 Italy 4-1 and in 1994 again Italy 3-2 on penalties. The Brazilian team achieved their last trick in 2002 when they defeated Germany 2-0.
