The Austria coach spoke about it at the World Cup with the Austrian portal Krone admitting that “three weeks ago there was a first contact and talks were held. I made it clear from the beginning that I wanted to have clarity before the start of the World Cup, for myself, for the team, for the country, for the Austrian Football Federation and for my players”. Why hasn’t anything been done about it? “There was still no clarity,” clarified the coach.

Rangnick therefore decided to extend his contract as coach of the Austrian national team: “I said from the beginning that the renewal is a decision of principle in which many factors influenced – he explained -, among these also the question of who, within my technical staff, would remain available. For this reason I can now sit here and say with great satisfaction that it is the right decision to remain in office after the World Cup”. The basis for the choice of timing, as explained by the coach, is a question of transparency towards the group he coaches: “It wouldn’t have been that serious for the players if I had decided only after the World Cup – he said -, but it’s good that there is clarity now. If I didn’t feel at ease, I wouldn’t have been here for two years. This whole thing is really close to my heart.”
