The darts professionals Martin Schindler and Ricardo Pietreczko kept the dream of the first German title at the team world championship in Frankfurt am Main alive. “The Wall” and “Pikachu” prevailed in a close round of 16 with 8:6 against the Czechs Adam Gawlas and Karel Sedlacek. A completely different caliber is now waiting for the German duo there in the Netherlands.

In the round of 16 at the World Cup of Darts, Martin Schindler and Ricardo Pietreczko did not build on their excellent performances from the group phase, but with an average of over 92 points, the German duo should still emerge from the round of 16 with a lot of self-confidence, which the Czechs Adam Gawlas and Karel Sedlacek were only able to open up late on.

The Germans got off to a furious start in the Frankfurt ice rink, breaking their opponents from the neighboring country on their two throws. In the meantime, “The Wall” and “Pikachu” were in the lead with 6:1, but still had to worry about their place in the quarter-finals because the Czech Republic played their way up to 4:6. A break by the outsiders to make it 6:7 gave Gawlas/Sedlacek hope again.

Darts: Luke Littler and Luke Humphries also continue

However, the Czechs were unable to hold on to their own throw and were doomed by a double rate of only 22.22 percent. Pietreczko threw the German duo into the round of the last eight with a 44 finish, where the Netherlands are co-favorites for the team world championship title. Michael van Gerwen and Gian van Veen narrowly won against Sweden 8:6.

Last year, Schindler and Pietreczko only failed in the semi-finals against eventual winners Northern Ireland. On the way there, the two sensationally knocked England out of the tournament in the round of 16 with individual world champion Luke Littler, who will be competing again this year together with Luke Humphries at the prestigious Team World Championships in Frankfurt am Main.

After the debacle last year, the top favorites did not show any weakness in the round of 16 this time. Against José Justicia and Cristo Reyes, the number one and two of the Order of Merit only let something go temporarily, and after a temporary 4:4, they confidently pulled away with a strong finish and won the game 8:5. Wales are now waiting in the quarter-finals.
