PSV player Joey Veerman makes himself heard. Clothing brand G-STAR placed a full-page advertisement in De Telegraaf with the midfielder, complete with orange ball and the text ‘Denim with true character’. A clear jab at national coach Ronald Koeman, who previously said that Veerman’s character is ‘different’. The timing – just before the World Cup – does not seem to be a coincidence. Koeman recently admitted that he could have handled the communication around Veerman better. Read the whole story here.

A man in Schijndel this week returned a library book that he borrowed 45 years ago. The botany textbook from the 1970s turned up while cleaning up before his move. The original stamp card from 1981 was still in it.
Librarian Ilona van den Bergen was pleasantly surprised and is considering keeping the book as a special copy. Fortunately, the man does not have to pay a fine – it was already time-barred after five years. Check out the story here.

Eindhoveen resident Omar Elshal (33) has been stuck in an Egyptian cell for eight months. The ASML engineer was arrested at Cairo airport in October, probably because of his presence at pro-Palestinian demonstrations in Eindhoven. He is suspected of ‘damaging Egypt’s reputation’.
Omar’s health deteriorates, he lost his income and his apartment. His wife has become homeless. The Dutch embassy takes little action, ASML stopped his salary. Only after pressure from Mayor Dijsselbloem was there any movement in the matter. You can read the whole story here.

In Tilburg, relatives grabbed the hoe and hedge trimmer themselves on Saturday afternoon. They are cleaning up the neglected cemetery on Professor Lorentzstraat because they can no longer wait for the board.
