While Joep van der Plas from Maren-Kessel is enjoying a weekend away in Otterlo, he receives a call from his neighbor on Friday evening. Not good news. Through his Ring doorbell he sees how two men steal his e-bike worth around 3,000 euros in front of his home on the Marensedijk. “Unbelievable. That’s very sad.”

Around ten o’clock in the evening, Joep watches through his doorbell. There he sees how two men, who he believes speak Polish, cut three locks off the bicycle with a grinder. Then they load the e-bike into a car and take off. “Plenty of screen. Unbelievable, not normal,” says Joep Dtv News.

Not at home, cycle away
“It concerns a bicycle costing 3,000 euros that was secured with three locks.” Joep was not at home at the time of the theft. “We were only gone for two days and then you get this,” he says.

After his neighbor raises the alarm, Joep knows enough: that bicycle will not return. “The neighbor called me and he went after it, but he was too late.”

Seen nearby
The theft did not go unnoticed in the neighborhood. Information was shared via a neighborhood app and other people are said to have seen the situation. Yet the perpetrators managed to escape.

Joep immediately called the police and filed a report. “They are going to see what else they can do about it. Fortunately, the bicycle is insured.”

Warning for the environment
The resident of Maren-Kessel hopes that his story is also a warning to others in the region. “You think: what is this? It’s just sour. You see live how your bike is stolen and you can’t do anything about it.”
