The focus of the discussions is the question of the transfer. According to “Bild”, the final sum is likely to be between 6 million and 8 million euros. Reese is tied to Hertha until 2030, but the rumored monthly salary of 150,000 euros is said to be too high for the cash-strapped Berliners, which is why Reese is not considered unsaleable. Both media say that a change could happen quickly.
VfL Wolfsburg is said to have received commitments from Reese and his Berlin teammate Tjark Ernst (23) weeks ago, but only in the event of relegation. After the first relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga, squad planning had to be addressed again. Sports director Pirmin Schwegler recently spoke to “Sky” about Reese as an “interesting player”.
Reese had missed his big goal in the Bundesliga with Hertha, which is why his commitment, renewed last March, began to crumble. “The fact is: I want to start a family. I want to play in the Bundesliga. I have a very long contract and Hertha is my club,” said Reese in the podcast “Playmaker – Football from all sides”. When asked about the big promotion goal, the professional said: “We’ve been saying that for three years now. That hasn’t worked either. So maybe we shouldn’t talk about it so much. And just do a good job and then talk about it when it’s realistic.” For the Wolves, the goal would also be a direct return to the upper house.
Reese & Co.: Hertha BSC needs transfer income
After top talent Kennet Eichhorn (16), who is moving to Bayer Leverkusen for around 9 million euros, Reese would be the second high-profile departure from Hertha. Other top performers such as goalkeeper Ernst or Márton Dárdai (24) are also likely to leave the Berliners in order to bring in more money for the capital club to rebuild the squad. According to Transfermarkt information, an inquiry has also been received from Serie A for right-back Julian Eitschberger. The 22-year-old played 28 games last season (two goals).
