As expected, FC Bayern is lending its midfield talent Javier Fernández to second division team 1. FC Nürnberg for another year.

“Javier has shown what great potential he has. We are very happy about the steps he has taken since joining us. It was always the plan to keep him with us beyond the second half of the season. We are therefore very pleased that this plan is now working,” said club sports director Joti Chatzialexiou.

Fernández explained: “I have arrived very well at FCN, I feel very comfortable in the club and in the city. The match practice is good for me, I notice that I am improving in many areas. That will also be my goal for the new season: to keep pushing and improve even more.”

The 19-year-old Spaniard moved from FC Bayern to Nuremberg in January. He played a total of eight times in the 2nd Bundesliga for the Franconians. He managed to assist on a goal.

FC Bayern is hoping for “progress” with Javier Fernández

“Despite some setbacks due to injuries, Javi has developed well and gained valuable experience at 1. FC Nürnberg. The extension of the loan is the right step for his further development,” said Bayern’s sporting director Christoph Freund. “We are convinced that he will receive the necessary match practice at the club and look forward to continuing to closely monitor his progress.”

FC Bayern brought Fernández from Atlético Madrid’s youth department to its campus in January 2023. The Spanish junior international was then promoted to the U23 via the U17 and U19 juniors of the German record champions.

After a long injury break, Fernández celebrated his comeback in the Bavarian Regional League in December. He was also used in three professional test matches.
