The 19-year-old driver of the fatal traffic accident that took place on Thursday in the Dutch province of Zeeland, not far from the Belgian border, will remain in custody longer. The public prosecutor’s office of Zeeland-West-Brabant announced this on Friday.

The suspect was driving the car, which collided with a group of cyclists near the municipality of Vogelwaarde, all children and supervisors from De Warende primary school in Axel. Three children and an adult were killed. Several children were also injured.
According to the public prosecutor’s office, a “broad-based” investigation into the suspect is underway, which will take some time. It will be decided early next week whether the suspect will be brought to trial.
Fourteen children and two supervisors from a primary school were involved in the accident. The group was on a school camp. The deceased supervisor is said to be the director of the school.
