The US Department of Justice has given its approval to Paramount and Warner Bros. for the merger of Discovery, Politico online magazinei news

The merger of the entertainment giants could shake things up in Hollywood. In the United States, there are fears that former competitors ending up under the same roof could lead to mass layoffs.

The Ministry of Justice estimates that the deal is unlikely to harm competition in the TV and film industry or US consumers.

According to Paramount, the merger would help entertainment companies to cope in the intensifying competition in the technology industry for audiences, know-how and investments.

The deal must also be approved by the EU and British competition authorities, Axios tells.
