No murder, but manslaughter. And above all: no longer an ordinary road pirate. Paolo Falzone (38), the driver who crashed into a group of carnivalists in Strépy, was found guilty by the assize jury of manslaughter of seven people and 79 attempted manslaughter. The jury therefore does not regard the carnival drama as a classic traffic accident, but as a deliberate crime of life. “If you drive into victims at such speeds without stopping, then your car is a weapon,” says former Assen chairman Edwin Van Fraechem (86) to HLN. “I have the impression that this is a first.”
