Ole Werner is apparently up for grabs internally. Now a possible new coach comes into conversation – it’s an old acquaintance from the German record champions.

Is a coaching change looming at a top Bundesliga club – with a former Bayern star at the center? Sky Sport had already reported on Thursday that coach Ole Werner was apparently about to quit at RB Leipzig. Accordingly, Red Bull’s global team, led by Jürgen Klopp, discussed a coaching change for the Saxons twice during the past season, but was unable to prevail against the club management. There is no public confirmation of this.

Now there could be further movement in the matter. As the Spanish sports newspaper “Marca” reported on Friday afternoon, Martín Demichelis is no longer head coach of RCD Mallorca. The long-time FC Bayern defender has only been training in the Balearic Islands since the end of February, but is said to have already decided to leave the club quickly – because the offer from Leipzig is “unbeatable”. He was unable to save Mallorca from relegation from La Liga at the end of the season and apparently has an exit clause in his contact.

Curious: Even the club only found out about Demichelis’ decision through a “Marca” reporter’s statement on a radio show. At RB, the 45-year-old Argentine is said to be the top candidate to replace Werner.

Despite the changeable 2025/26 season, the former Werder Bremen coach led Leipzig to third place in the table in his first year and thus led them back into the Champions League. In the previous season, the ambitious club surprisingly missed out on international business.
